My name is Jenny Gartrell and with my friend Maureen Dewhirst I first visited Kenya in June 2009. After spending three weeks in a small village called Bombo on the outskirts of Mombasa we decided to try to help the community with the assistance of a Kenyan girl called Beth.
Our plan was to Educate, Empower and Support the community.
We are committed firstly, to educate the children. We also hope to raise the awareness of birth control and other health issues by holding ongoing Health Education Workshops. At our most recent workshop we arranged for all participants to get an HIV test. Two were found to be positive and referred for further treatment.
We are committed to not giving hand outs but to setting up sustainable income producing projects. We have purchased a charcoal oven for a baking group of ladies and also 3 treadle sewing machines for another group. Both are progressing really well.
Our aim is to direct ALL funds raised to the people in the most effective way.
Your support and interest is very much appreciated by us, the children and staff of the school and the people of Bombo Village, Kenya.
